Light lights
By Napoleon Black
TEXT (1 John 2:9)
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. NIV
Anyone who claims to live in God's light and hates a brother or sister is still in the dark. Message
If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a Christian brother or sister that person is still living in darkness. NLT
COMMENTARY
Christian living is tested in many ways. One of the ways we are tested is in how we view other believers. If a person is a believer then we are to love him. It is as simple as that. Jesus loves every one of his brothers; He is not ashamed to call them brothers. We do not adjust our love for any believer because of what he may or may not have done. God does not treat us that way. We must cultivate complete love for each other.
This does not mean that we enable unhealthy and counter-productive behaviour in others. This does not mean that we do not confront sin in others. This does not mean that we do not demand of able-bodied people that they find work instead of burdening the church and other believers.
Our love for each other must mean that we do not set traps for each other nor do we do anything to undermine the will of God in each other. Instead, we enable each other to be what Jesus wants each believer to be. It means that we encourage the fulfilment of the will of God in each heart.
Something to Meditate on:
Am I in light or am I in darkness?
A decision I need to make
Is there any believer in my community that I hate or deliberately avoid or am not talking to?
