Discipleship: Throws Down Ghetto Walls

Keep going, while you are going, as you go into all the world Make Disciples!!! Baptize disciples!!! Teach Disciples!!! The emphasis is not primarily on going, it is assumed by Jesus that we'd be going, that we'd be moving. In the process we have three commands, three strong imperatives. I dare say that if we are not making disciples we are living in disobedience. We may be just as guilty as Saul (1 Sam. 15) who made a sacrifice but was harshly admonished that obedience is better than sacrifice. Yesterday, Sunday November 22, 2009 I was moved to tears by the thrill of disciple making. Unfolding before my very eyes was the fruit of my efforts. One of my deacons, Delroy Blake gave his inaugural sermon, and what a blessing it was! Almost 7 years ago when I came to ministry in Grants Pen, Delroy was a chain smoker, drinker, gambler, who wanted nothing to with church. Through the relational ministry approach and the down to earth radical approach of Jesus which I have adopt

Why Practicing Servant Leadership Is Such A Huge Challenge In Jamaica

Practicing servant leadership is a massive challenge to the Christian community globally. By using examples in your cultural context why would you say is it such a huge challenge and what are the obstacles in the way to live or practice servant leadership in your community? During the last quarter of 2008, I was approached by the director of spiritual affairs at the Jamaica Theological Seminary with a question that caused me to reflect deeply for many days. The resulting reflection troubled me immensely. The theme chosen for Seminary for the academic year 2008 – 2009 was “Servant Leadership: The way up is down.” I was asked by him to help him identify local pastors who embodied servant leadership to be invited to speak at the chapel sessions throughout the year. Immediately I realized that I had been asked a very difficult question because by all stretches of the imagination I was hard pressed to identify such leaders. This led me to seriously ponder why is it that

Not Buju Banton's Original Sin

In response to the article in the Sunday Gleaner, “Buju Banton’s Original Sin” printer November 1, 2009, written by C. Cooper. Located online here: http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20091101/cleisure/cleisure3.html I tend to like reading Cooper because she writes copiously on issues of Jamaican culture inclusive of matters related to Dancehall music, in which I have a keen interest due to among other things the fact that it is through dancehall music I learned most of what I knew about Jamaica before moving here in 1998. The song in question Boom By By was released during my junior high school year and was an instant hit in Grenada. The language barrier conquered by my inquisitive mind and a careful listening of the song, I sang along word for word, line by line with little thought of anything else. Today of course its an entirely different matter. I suspect that the writer of the article chose the words ‘original sin’ as one of the many puns that she used in the article delib

Not Nip Tuck Show, but better

I enjoy the series "Nip Tuck" very much, for different reasons, among them being the fact that one of my close female friends had a Tummy Tuck done some years ago and I was absolutely amazed at the concept, not having been familiar with it before.  Now I have much more knowledge of it.  The cost for some persons may be prohibitive, but then again for many it is just another elective surgery.  Those who opt to have this done need to do some research on the facility as well as the surgeons.  In examining the services offered at this facility in the Beverly Hills area I was quite pleased with the layout of the website and its contents.  If I were consdidering this procedure and came upon their website I think I would have been convinced to go there.  There is a good little summary of the procedure given on the home page along with info on why their facility has been receiving rave reviews.  One of the things stated on the home page is that they offer the option of having your T

The science of colognes

I love colognes. The Scent of a great cologne just does something to me that lifts my mood and takes me to a cool place. When I was told by my doctor that I had acute rhinitis, a form of allergy I was most alarmed that it meant I would have to drastically reduce my use of colognes. My all time favorite CK Be was one of the chief offenders. But I just love the masculine, musky scent of that one. Most ladies I came across when I wore it loved it. When I am on the streets of Brooklyn I would spend much time at teh cologne section just sniffing out different Scent . I am also very interested in the chemistry and science behind making a cologne that will be an instant hit! I really am constantly amazed at the sheer power of the Scent , the science of perfumes, the study and mimicking of the bodies natuarl pheremones that goes into the design and chemistry of a great cologne. I take the time to choose carefully. i can spend hours at the perfume stand just basking in the

Heaven Scent

I love colognes. Always been a god appreciation of scents. When I was in college we learnt about pheremones and that fascinated me so much to think that science can mimick the smells our bodies emit to draw a mate. CK One is one of my all time favorites. When I first visited evening perfume I was so excited. I want to encourage the folks over there to press on in this business and one day soon this site will become a household name I hope. Check it out yourself.

Go rustic!

Rustic furniture! wow! The power of the mind is awesome. We hear words now and before even know it they are processed through our recorded brain files. So I hear rustic furniture and I'm thinking... hmmm ornate designs, hand crafted wood work, hand paited steel chairs chairs padded with crochet covers. Furniture that brings you into an era from the past. i visited Scenic Furnitur e and I was glad to see that my conjured up image was on target, so if thats what gets your blood racing give them a check online. rustic furniture I like the idea of being able to go online and order one of those old grand pa rocking chiars. At rustic furniture I'd like to see that. They have many such items and the list will grow with time, so what are you waiting for? Its time to go rustic!

No Gay Gene

http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=528376 APA revises 'gay gene' theory Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 5/14/2009 6:30:00 AM The attempt to prove that homosexuality is determined biologically has been dealt a knockout punch. An American Psychological Association publication includes an admission that there's no homosexual "gene" -- meaning it's not likely that homosexuals are born that way.   For decades, the APA has not considered homosexuality a psychological disorder, while other professionals in the field consider it to be a "gender-identity" problem. But the new statement, which appears in a brochure called "Answers to Your Questions for a Better Understanding of Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality," states the following: "There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible ge

SURVIVING A FAST

Surviving a Fast Adam Smith   http://www.relevantmagazine.com/features-reviews/god/16141-surviving-a-fast  Lent is upon us, and the time has come for making some sacrifices. For many of us who grew up in a strongly evangelical environment, Lent can be somewhat foreign. But as many people return to the ancient practices of Christianity, liturgical practices like Lent are becoming more common. One way to dive into Lent is an all-out fast. In our consumer society where fast food commercials try to convince us to instantly satisfy our every craving, a fast is a countercultural statement. Add to that the fact that it's a rich and biblical part of Christian tradition. If you want to undertake a fast, but never have before, here are a few tips to help you succeed. Set an Attainable Time Goal A couple years ago I decided to write an article for the magazine about fasting. My best friend and I planned to document our journey as we fasted from all food for 40 days. We both made it
