When He Comes...
By Teddy A Jones

TEXT (Col. 3: 3-4)

For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in His glory .[NLT]

Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show, up too- the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile be content with obscurity, like Christ.[Msg]

COMMENTARY
To paraphrase Victor Frankl, when a person has something compelling enough to live for or to look forward to they can survive the most cruel circumstances. What are you looking forward to? A promotion at work? A husband/wife? New Car? Your next meal? The next party? Your next indulging of the flesh? Tomorrow?

Paul writes here, with absolute certainty about something worth looking forward to. When Christ comes... when Christ is revealed... When Christ shows up again on this earth... you will share his glory! The scepticism about the return of Christ that began in the first century has been magnified exponentially with the speed of light pace of advancement of science and technology. The ooohs and ahhhs of the I-pad, 4G, Mobile TV, commercial space travel, and HDTV to name a few can have a drugging effect that reduces our vision to the here and now as the be all and end all of our existence. There was no doubt in the mind of Christ that He was returning, nor was there in the mind of the forerunners of Christianity.

In like manner the accolades and the applause of man is often imbibed and chased after by the disciples of Jesus. We often desire to be the sugar of the world, liked, favoured, honoured, known, called sought after, front row, video light, red carpet... as if our very identity and sense of self rests precariously on the cliff of men’s recognition. The real parade, the one that matters blasts off When Christ returns. We will share His glory. What a glory that will be! That’s something to shout about! That’s something to look forward to.

Something to Meditate on:

How do I treat others around me in my pursuit of glory?

A decision I need to make
Will I live within the boundaries of the return of Christ or the boundaries of the here and now?
