TEXT (Col. 3: 12)

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.[NIV]

12Clothe yourselves therefore, as God's own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper]. [AMP]

COMMENTARY
We are to enter God’s department store and shop freely. The specially made garments of the new life will not disappoint. They allow us to be dressed for success in a world where which offers fake clothes promising success but delivering only heart ache, confusion and animosity. Charles Dickens was right when he said “Probably every new and eagerly expected garment ever put on since clothes came in fell a trifle short of the wearer's expectation.”

In God’s department store we find tender-hearted pity and mercy. How often we rush seeking mercy from God, yet revel in punishing others. We find in there kindness. The rat race has stolen the ability to kind from us. It has given us instead a convenience based ‘willingness to help’ defined by WIIFM(what’s in it for me). God has stocked his fashion store with humility. So much of the old self is about the proud me. Humility has high Throne Room value. A must visit section of the department store is the patience aisle. In this world we will have troubles. The feel good Christianity that is so pervasive today has no place for troubles yet there are a fundamental part of the journey. The joy is in the journey and God provided ample supplies of patience for us.

Something to Meditate on:
Could it be that my state of anxiety and frustrations stems from the fact that I am not dressed for success?

A decision I need to make
Which aisle of God’s department store do I need to pay a visit today?
