Highly Decorated Ambassadors
By Teddy A Jones

TEXT (Col. 3: 12)

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.[NIV]

12Clothe yourselves therefore, as God's own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, ... [AMP]

12God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient.[CEV]

COMMENTARY

It has been well established for example, and Scripture bears this out, that all humans are engaged in the search for meaning, for identity and for significance. We all need to be loved and to be validated. When we examine people’s attitudes and conduct with this in mind it becomes so much easier to understand what makes some people tick and what lies behind many of the struggles that people face daily.

The constant servings of excessive three course meals from the entertainment menu that some persons help themselves to can be traced to the search for meaning and identity. The desire to be in the video light, doing anything that has been suggested by those present is a search for validation. The never ending cycle of romantic relationships or chain dating that some practice is another symptom of those deeper cravings. The colossal struggle that some of the disciples of Christ have with the deeds of the former life may often be addressed by confronting their attempt to fill the soul hole with the wrong fillers.

This text presents us with a powerful description of who we are in Christ. We are specially chosen by God. God sought after us and decided to choose us! We are the objects of His love. Oh love that will not let us go! We are purified and holy. We are ambassadors of Heaven and we come highly decorated. To understand and to embrace our identity is to begin to see that our basic intrinsic human quests have all ended at the cross. The blind alleys of self gratification, self glorification, human validation should have no further appeal. You are dearly love, you are pure, you are chosen!

Something to Meditate on:
Why do I want the things that I want?

A decision I need to make

Stand in front the mirror and speak this verse over and into your life, till it begins to change you from the inside it.
