HEADING

Step out of the Dark

By Napoleon Black

TEXT (1 John 1:6)

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. NIV

If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we're obviously lying through our teeth—we're not living what we claim. Message

If we say that we share in life with God and keep on living in the dark, we are lying and are not living by the truth. CEV

COMMENTARY

Life in Christ is the most precious thing we have and the greatest experience we may share with Him. It is the heart of our faith – fellowship with Jesus. When we say that we are in Christ, we mean that we have a healthy, strong, vibrant, confident relationship with Him, marked by His love for us and our love for Him.

Not only that, it is also a reminder that we are without excuse in living for Him.

Too many of us make excuses for living below the potential that God has given us through the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus. We blame demons, we blame the past, we blame our present circumstances rather than assume the power and the responsibility given to us by being joined in relationship with Jesus.

People in relationship with Jesus do not keep on stumbling in the dark. Jesus does not offer darkness and confusion and indignity. He offers light, a firm foundation and confidence to live for Him. It is useless to say that I am a Christian and still live powerlessly in the dark.

Something to Meditate on:

Am I stumbling in the dark in any area of my life?

A decision I need to make

What is it that I need to submit to the light of God that I may become more authentic in my faith?
