Far from reality
By Rev. Teddy A Jones

TEXT (Joshua 1: 1-2)
After the death of Moses the servant of God, God spoke to Joshua, Moses' assistant: "Moses my servant is dead. Get going. Cross this Jordan River, you and all the people. (Message)

After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. (NLT)

COMMENTARY
“ I met this girl the other day and when me check har’ she was far from reality...she was far, far, away... I never knew that before I met her she was far from reality...” – Natural Black, Jamaican Reggae Artiste.

The grace and providence of God has allowed to us to cross over from 2010 into 2011. We stand freshly at the beginning of the 2nd decade of the 21st century. Filled with anticipation, trepidation, anxiety, expectation, mental paralysis or total ambivalence. Perhaps too many are like the girl described in the song above.
Moses had served, and served well. Knowing that he was about to pass on He publicly culminated his succession plan by affirming Joshua as his replacement and commending him to the Israelites. Moses died and the people wept for him for 30 days [Deut. 34:8]. Thirty days! That’s a whole month!

The book of Joshua opens with God coming to Joshua and finding him far from reality, in need of a reality check. “Moses my servant is dead”! Get going!, The time has come for you to lead... Could it be that Joshua became stuck in the moment, stuck in the memories of the great victories under Moses’ leadership, stuck in the past? Could it be that the future ahead of entering the promised land beyond the Jordan had paled because the reality of Moses’ death had not soaked in?
Are you properly positioned mentally and spiritually to face the new year that is upon us?

Something to Meditate on:
How many dead Moses’ are in your life? Or are you Moses?

A decision I need to make
What are the reality checks that I need to take so I can move ahead today!!
