Take no exits: God’s Road Map
By Rev. Teddy A Jones

TEXT (Joshua 1: 1-8)
7 Be strong and brave. Be sure to obey all the teachings my servant Moses gave you. If you follow them exactly, you will be successful in everything you do. (NCV)

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. (NLT)

Give it everything you have, heart and soul. Make sure you carry out The Revelation that Moses commanded you, every bit of it. Don't get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you're going.

COMMENTARY
Whether on a highway or an unfamiliar country road, taking the wrong exit can have disastrous results. Far from the inconvenience of losing time trying to get back on the straightway it may even lead to death. Having given Joshua a reality check in verses 1 and 2 God lays out for Him a road map for success.

It was a map that was clearly marked. Long before GPS units and In-Dash navigational screens God provided a fail safe guide. Not only was He challenging Joahua to face the reality of the death of Moses and the task entrusted to him to lead the people forward, but He was offering him a road map. The road map was another testimony to the stellar leader and mentor that Moses had been. Joshua was very familiar with God’s instructions, Moses had made sure of that. For his part all God required is that he stayed on course.

One would be hard pressed to make the case today that God’s instructions are obscure. We often make the discovery of God’s will into something from a sci-fi flick or some nebulous quest like that of Star Trek. God’s written Word contains his open hearted self-disclosure. The living word has made it even plainer. The challenge is not so much is seeing the signs that mark the road way as it is staying on course. As it is resisting the urge to divert. ‘Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love’, aptly describes me.

Something to Meditate on:
Do I really not know the way I should go?

A decision I need to make
In what area(s) of my life do I need to stop and double back unto the highway?
